Lucy Callahan was a normal girl until she was struck by lightning when she was eight and suddenly became a math genius.
Her grandmother took her out of school and homeschooled her until she was in seventh grade and already her math IQ was off the charts and could probably easily attend college but there was one thing that bothered her grandmother, she had no social interaction so her grandmother ultimately decided that she should go to middle school for one year and make 1 friend and even though she does not want to attend middle school her grandmother forces her to go.
They made fun of Lucy’s strange habits which earn her the label “cleaning lady”. She spends most of her time trying to hide that she is a genius at math. At Lucy’s school, they learn that they have to do a project to help the community, and Lucy teams up with Windy and Levi and they volunteered at a pet shelter called pet hut and while she volunteers there, she sees a dog get abandoned at the shelter and when she sees that the dog’s name is Cutie Pi and she takes this as a sign because Pi is a mathematical equation.
Lucy eventually falls in love with Cutie Pi but one day when he is examined they find out that he has rare brain cancer and is considered unadoptable but Lucy desperately wants to save him but it is all in vain and they have to bring him to the shelter but suddenly Lucy’s math teacher comes and adopts Cutie Pi and Lucy realizes she doesn’t need to calculate middle school she just has to believe in herself and do her best.
